Realtor for buying and selling 55+ senior co-ops in Minnesota

A Minnesota senior cooperative is a 55+ building where you buy shares, not a deed, then pay a monthly fee and get board approval. I'm Lisa Dunn, SRES®, CSA®, CSREC, with RE/MAX Results, and I help Twin Cities older adults buy and sell co-op shares and line up the sale of their current home.

What does buying into a senior co-op really mean?

You buy a share in the cooperative, which gives you the right to live in your unit. You pay a share price up front and a monthly fee that covers things like the building's mortgage, taxes and upkeep. The co-op board approves new members. My co-op vs. condo guide compares the two.

Will I get my money back when I sell my share?

It depends on the co-op's equity model, which is set in its documents. Some limit how much a share's value can change; others follow the market more closely. Read the bylaws and ask the co-op how resale works before you buy, and I'll walk through them with you.

My name is moving up the waitlist. Is my house ready to sell?

This is the right time to plan. Co-op openings can come with a short window, so we can get the house ready and the timing worked out before your number comes up.

Selling a parent's co-op share?

Co-op resales follow the co-op's own process, often with board approval for the buyer and sometimes a resale list. I can help you understand the steps and handle the sale. See selling a parent's home.

Where can I see Twin Cities co-ops?

Your homework
