Teaching at the University of Minnesota OLLI
This fall, I'm an OLLI instructor at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Minnesota, and it's my fifth time teaching for OLLI. Our course, "The Truth about Senior Services: What No One Tells You (But Should)," meets seven Thursdays, October 8 to November 19, 2026, at Roseville Lutheran Church.
Most of us don't know what we don't know about senior services until a costly mistake, a scam, or a crisis teaches us the hard way. So six of us who work in the field teach it together: an elder law attorney, a senior money manager, a social worker and caregiver consultant, a senior move manager, a senior living advisor, and me. After an opening panel, each of us leads a week. My session covers the "we buy houses" signs and cash offers, the $99 deed offer, wire fraud in real estate transactions, and how to vet a real estate agent.
Teaching has always been part of my work. I've helped older adults and their families in the Twin Cities with later-life moves since 2003, and I'm an approved SRES® instructor, so I also teach other agents how to serve older clients well. OLLI classrooms are a different kind of room. They're full of curious, engaged people who ask great questions, and I learn as much as I teach.
